Introduction

EPIC World Foundation surveyed 5,220 Entrepreneurial Households (EHs) across 18 Indian states, collecting ground-breaking evidence on how to design financial products that actually work for how they earn, spend, and plan.

We at Revisual Labs wrote, designed, and developed "EH360"—a data story that communicates their research in an engaging, enriching narrative, accompanied by insightful data visualisations and vibrant graphic elements. Our microsite delivered the EH360 story, a chart gallery laden with Flourish charts, as well as a video hub and landing page to house them all. We crafted the story to be engaging, intriguing, and insightful, resulting in a knowledge base that product builders can rely on to guide their decision-making in the financial inclusion space.

The Brief

EPIC World Foundation and their research partners 1Lattice embarked on a 4 month-long survey, collecting data from 5,220 households across India. 35 in-depth interviews (IDIs) and a handful of focus group discussions (FGDs) supplemented the data qualitatively.

We were tasked with contextualising Entrepreneurial Households' engagement with the financial system, positioning them as a high-potential customer segment through an immersive, interactive data story.

Design

Our design language expands on EPIC World's visual identity, focused on a key concept we identified during the storyfinding process—that Entrepreneurial Households exist between contrasting worlds, or, "Dualities".

The visuals are vibrant, representative of EHs in India, and are balanced by clean, authoritative typography and a thoughtfully curated colour palette. Images spotlight the people behind the data, giving readers a glimpse of their households, everyday lives, commercial activities, and most importantly—their aspiration.

Design

The story features multiple scrollytelling sections, charts, and other interactive components. An Instagram-format story explorer allows readers to explore 6 "Dualities", each section with its own narrative and data visualisations substantiating each theme.

The Result

EH360 is a story that authoritatively and empathetically introduces Entrepreneurial Households as a segment, while also highlighting the immense economic opportunity they present.

The larger EHData.org microsite it is housed in also serves as a one-stop platform for investors, policy makers, product innovators, and researchers in the financial inclusion space, presenting them with the data they need to craft better solutions for EHs.
